Laptop Fails to Turn On

The computer will not turn on or show signs of having turned on.

Faulty Power Cord

If the cord fails to charge the battery or provide power to the computer, make sure that the cord is plugged into the computer, the wall, and the converter. If the problem persists, the cord may be broken, and you may want to consider buying a new one.

Faulty Battery

If the battery will neither charge nor provide power to the computer, you may need to buy a replacement battery. To replace the battery, turn the laptop upside down and pull the switches keeping the battery in place. This will pop out the battery. Remove the old battery and place the new battery in the computer and make sure you hear a click. This signals that the battery is locked in place. A video for this process can be found here.

Laptop Won't Boot

The computer displays an error message instead of loading the operating system.

Insufficient or bad RAM

If the computer shuts down randomly or during memory intensive tasks, your computer may have either bad or insufficient RAM. Install more RAM to your computer; the guide is not for this model, but it is similar enough until a proper guide is made.

Bad Processor

If the computer will not boot at all, or shows an error message, the processor may be bad. You will need to buy a new one to replace it.

Corrupt Operating System

If the boot sequence fails when the computer tries to load the operating system, the operating system may be corrupt. To see if this is the problem, attempt to boot the computer from an operating system disk if you own one. If the computer boots from the disc, you will need to reinstall the operating system. If it still fails to boot, the hard drive may have gone bad.
